I am a final-year Communication Arts and Technology student majoring in Journalism at the University of Technology, Jamaica. My passion for animals has led me to use media as a tool for positive change especially when it comes to animal welfare.

A lifelong Love for Animals
Growing up, I witnessed heartbreaking acts of cruelty, from people abandoning dogs and cats on the roadside to poisoning and mistreating them. As a child, I would often play “vet,” doing my best to care for puppies by giving them food and a safe place to rest. These early experiences shaped my deep empathy for animals.
A Pivoting Moment
In 2023, I had the opportunity to visit Canada, and I immediately noticed how differently animals were treated compared to Jamaica. Seeing this contrast strengthened my desire to make a difference in my own country. I realized how much we lack in terms of pet education and resources, and I knew I wanted to be part of the solution.
Turning Passion into Action
Now, as I complete my final year of university, I’ve chosen to embark on a project that aligns with what I truly love. I believe that education is the key to fostering responsible pet ownership and reducing instances of animal neglect. I’m still learning, and as someone who loves animals, I’m always open to learning more. My goal is to help create a more compassionate society where pets are valued, protected, and properly cared for.
